I would suggest going to the doctor as well. If you have had that sort of problem for that long, I would think that there could be some type of damage to the disc(s) that could be the problem and they may be able to fix it. An MD might be better than a chiro at first as w/ some types of injuries chiropractic care may be counterindicated. Good luck!

The other thing that can happen is that an injury that occurred a while ago will generally get worse over time. Even w/o an injury, some people's backs naturally get wear and tear. When an injury meets wear and tear is often when symptoms change over time.

Wikipedia has some info on degenerative disc disease that may be applicable to your case. Then again, I'm not a doctor, just old and decrepit!!

Another idea might be to try a straw w/ the brewskis, to prevent the repetitive beer-chugging motion...:-D

I've definitely been known to go to bed drunk and wake up with a severely stiff neck... I guess body doesn't know to tell my unconscious self "DON'T SLEEP IN THAT POSITION!"

And a DO would almost certainly be better than an MD - you get the best of both worlds.

I doctor will only prescribe some sort of anti-inflammatory drug. Chiropractors are overrated and really don't do much at all. I'd recommend seeing a physiotherapist, without a doubt.

I haven't experienced any real, continuous nect pain yet (sometimes it hurts for a couple hours and goes away). I do have an interesting story about my dad and the neck pain he used to have though.

Four years ago, my dad was driving me back from my bball game and some woman makes a left on a RED LIGHT :-o and hits the side of my dad's car. No one got seriously injured, but my dad's neck was sore/stiff for a while after this. It turns out that the woman who hit my dad's car was none other than my history teacher that year (9th grade). I wasn't doing real well in the class (B- average) either - but after this accident...

1.) My dad's neck pains got better within a couple months. It was never too bad, just annoying when he turned his head a certain way.

2.) After this accident, I started getting A's and A-'s in my sleep for this class. Remember, I was getting B-'s and C+'s all year before this accident - now I get all A's. I dunno if it was because my work got better or if it was cuz she knew it was her fault for the accident lol. I Finished the year with a B+, which was pretty good (accident occured halfway through the school year). :-)
