I have no idea what the article was about, I didn't read it, I just noticed people discussing guitars so I piped in.
Ok, good... I couldn't get passed the first 2 paragraphs, so I thought maybe I was missing something too.
I'm more of a Les Paul fan... although I don't play.
I had a buddy who had a green and yellow sunburst LP with all gold hardware. Cost him a fortune.
I have a book (Poplorica, get it) that examines the 10 most influential people, events or things in American pop culture... Les Paul, the guy, is one of them.
His first electric guitar (he invented it) was just strings attached to a piece of wood, affectionately referred to as "The Log." Hence, the electric guitar was born.
Did a cord come out of the end of the log or something? I read some things about Les Paul a long time ago, but I can't remember much. They all seem to run together...

It had a pickup attached to it and The Log itself was was attached to an Epiphany jazz guitar, almost solely for looks.
If you're a battery, you're either working or you're dead....
I would recommend tracking down some Les Paul songs, he is a pretty freakin' hot guitar player. "The World is Waiting for the Sunrise" was a big hit and is bright, sunny jazz but the playing is pretty much shredding.
Bechtel pulling out of Iraq IS pretty big news though...
