Opinion on Lincecum

Postby PlayingWithFire » Fri Nov 03, 2006 2:29 am

There has been a lot of debate on what should be worried about Lincecum. The usual concerns are listed below.

1)Control Issues
2)Size leading to injury
3)Stamina
4)Delivery leading to injury
5)Lack of a 3rd pitch

I'm of the opinion that size doesn't necessarily matter when it comes to the health of a pitching prospect and big pitchers get hurt all the time. And with my untrained eye I think Lincecum's delivery is a thing of beauty that uses up everything in his body without any inefficiency. Stamina wasn't an issue for him back in college and was actually one of his strength. His only problem IMO are control issues(which are a lot better since joining the Giants, though a small sample size) and the lack of a changeup or slider.

Obviously I'm very very high on the guy. High enough to sport a sig for him. But I'd like to hear your thoughts.

The Giants absolutely stole Lincecum with the 10th pick of the 2006 draft. He'll earn a roster spot by next June and immediately become an inpact starter.

I've heard that he's a good candidate to close as well. Can anyone confirm this rumor? Or did I just dream this?

There has been talk about him ending up in the bullpen. That's plan B right now, though.

Lincecum is imo a top 5 SP prospect, probably right behind Bailey and Hughes.

In regards to body build, arm strength, and just general makeup, I've heard plenty of comparisons to Billy Wagner. I don't think his body would be able to take the innings needed to be a starter without breaking down.

personally I think it's too late for Linny to learn to throw left handed so he better not mess up his right arm. :-b

Well, if he turns out to be a Billy Wagner, I don't think I'll be too mad about giving up Tim Corcoran for him(in a package). But I still hope that he can be a starter and contribute more to the Giants and my fantasy team.

I'm surprised Havok hasn't showed up here and said something to the extend of.

"5'11" 160lbs who throws 100mph, he'll get hurt."
