Will the Marlins have Beckett pitch Sunday?

Postby jebatzel » Thu Sep 25, 2003 1:44 am

looking for a reason to drop him. I am only going to drop him if he isn't going to pitch any more.

ESPN only show who is pitching up to Saturday, doesn't have Sunday's starters.

if there is a one game playoff on Monday, he would pitch it .. maybe. Otherwise why would they pitch him on three days rest? He would be Game 1 or 2 starter if the make the playoffs. IMO

Yahoo playoffs say they go to 28th, but if there is a one game playoffs the stats from the game count toward the regular season, so shouldn't the it count for fantasy as well?

My guess is that the one game playoff would not count in fantasy leagues, because even though it's an extension of the regular season in terms of determining playoff berths, it's really a 163rd game, and outside the regular season schedule. Counting the game would give owners of teams in that playoff game an unfair advantage.

But what about the Yankees' game in Baltimore this past week?

That one seems to be a statistical aberration, so I don't really know, but I'd imagine they have the fantasy servers set up to stop taking stats on Sunday. Who knows if they count them or not, but my guess is no.

With that Yankees game counting as a game but being made up from scratch, Matsui is going to finish the year with 163 games played.

What happened when the Mets played the Reds in 1999? I wasn't playing fantasy baseball then so I don't know. 8-o

Well, apparently ESPN leagues do count any one game playoff as part of fantasy stats. Still trying to dig up info on Yahoo though:

The head-to-head fantasy playoffs begin during the last four weeks of Major League Baseball's regular season. Round One of the playoffs takes place from September 1-14 (Week 23 and 24 of Head-to-Head), while Round Two takes place from September 15-28 (Week 25 and 26 of Head-to-Head). Note that if there are any one-game playoffs at the end of the MLB season, statistics from that game will be included in fantasy baseball.

To answer the original question: No Beckett won't pitch Sunday, it's going to be Willis.

As to if the stats count for fantasy baseball: I'm sure they will count in roto leagues at Yahoo, but I don't know about H2H. I know Sportsline counted all games played for all leagues the last few years.
