What I don't understand is why they got Lilly AND Marquis. Thats 68 million. With that kind of money they could have gotten Zito and they would've been better off with just Zito than those two. Zito wanted a 5 or 6 year contract, but I'm sure he would've taken 116 mil over 6 years (which is roughly the same ammount per year that they are giving lilly and marquis).

I agree about Soriano in the leadoff spot, I'd bat him 2nd. He does seem to like hitting at the top of the order, but his XBH would be a bit more productive in the 2 spot.
But I've never been upset when the leadoff hitter homers and my team is out to the early 1-0 lead.
So, are you saying you'd rather have leading off Soriano, career .280 BA, .325 OBP than Juan Pierre, career .303 BA, .351 OBP??? Even though Pierre steals more bases and strikes out less as well? Even though you could have had Soriano batting *behind* Pierre, where his doubles and HR's would mean more? That's just crazy talk.
Man, I wish we could have kept Pierre to lead off and have Soriano batting 2 or 3.
(taps little picture of a microphone)... is this thing on?

Yeah, I'm 100% behind you on that one. I'm not really *upset* that they got Marquis and Lilly. It's probably a good idea. But christ - getting Zito for the same money would have been a much better idea. We've got plenty of risky pitchers already. Adding two more risky pitchers can help your rotation, but adding one solid pitcher is better.

I'm saying I would rather have ANYONE leading off than Pierre.
Pierre sucks, and sucks badly. Thank God Hendry didn't resign him.
I don't think Zito would want to come to Chitown (od course money talks)....I don't think he's going to the Mets either..I think he'll end up in Texas or somewhere on the west coast.
