I might be of the minority here, but I think this was actually a pretty good signing. Moyer is already at age 43, and still pitching above league average. Who's to say he won't be pitching like this at age 44 and age 45? I mean it's not like you can really foresee any kind of collapse for him. If he was going to collapse, I think he would have done it already. Moyer's been pretty dependable over the last few years, and I doubt that will really change. 5.5 million may also seem like a lot, but that's a bargain for this pitching market. I may be somewhat biased (as I credit a lot of the 2 Jays' WS victories to Gillick) and I find myself usually defending what he does, but this seriously wasn't that a bad move at all by Gillick to sign Moyer here.
