from the gm's mouth--izzy is the closer if healthy. if not, then wainwright "may have to be used as a closer."

Isn't Izzy scheduled to miss the first month or so? That quote leads me to believe Wainright will start the season in the pen and the Cards don't like moving a bullpen guy into the rotation mid-season.

Jason Isringhausen-R- Cardinals Sep. 19 - 9:00 pm et

Jason Isringhausen will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left hip on Thursday. No word yet on what the surgery will address or whether he'll be ready for spring training, although that's obviously the hope. It will be Izzy's second surgery on the hip. He also had a procedure after the 2004 World Series.Source: Cardinals.mlb.com

Not sure.

he has two varieties of fastball, a curve ball, a changeup, and a slider. he doesnt use the changeup often because the fastball/curve combo seems to be effective and speeding up and slowing down the hitters.

this is what his AAA pitching coach had to say about him last year:

MILLER: In my opinion he may be just a little bit ahead of Reyes. He's got more innings, and he knows how to pitch. He's getting tougher, you know, tougher mentally. He's more of a battler out there now. He's making some big strides this year. He's been more consistently down in the zone. His ball is sinking now compared to last year; he was still throwing the four-seamer last year, and now he's getting more groundball outs. His curveball is getting a little better. His changeup is good. He's actually starting to throw a slider and a split now -- might be throwing too many pitches, almost.
