Yeah, the Cards rotation is more need than the pen, if thats possible. I hear Mulder and Weaver might now be back though on 1 year incentive laden deals. If Izzy is healthy he'll still close.

Cards 2007

Carpenter
Mulder
Weaver
Reyes
Wainwright

Not bad if they all perform up to expectations, cheap too. ;-D

larussa is loyal to his vets so i'd say he's going to give izzy the ball in the 9th. i don't see the cards picking up izzy's option for '08 though.

Yeah I tend to think the job is Izzy's to lose if he is healthy. But watching that game today, Wainwright has a VERY NASTY 12-6 curve. Reyes looked like my wife swinging at that last pitch.

I'd say Izzy is closing but you never know. In an article this year, Walt Jocketty (GM) acknowledged that it was hard to compete in the postseason with 2 fresh rookie starters (Reyes and Wainwright). If they follow through with this, Wainwright might stay in the pen. Though, my bet is Izzy would be kept as closer and Wainwright as the set-up if this were to happen.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

I wonder if the Cubs would be interested...

I posted this in some other thread, and the "information" is nothing more than speculation, but it comes from a number of people that are complete die-hard Cards followers. Everyone seems to think that Reyes will be dealt in the offseason. Word is that LaRussa doesn't like him, and nothing I've seen in the postseason would make me think differently.

My money's on Reyes being dealt for an outfielder. It wouldn't shock me if Suppan returns to St. Louis instead of Weaver. I think Weaver's pitched just well enough in this series to make himself a ton of money (I'd laugh my ass off if some moronic AL team signed him).

And Izzy should be penciled in as the closer, for now at least.

dealing reyes now is dealing pretty low. i am sure the cards would consider it but not sure it would be worth it.

from the gm's mouth--izzy is the closer if healthy. if not, then wainwright "may have to be used as a closer."
