Phils looking to move Pat

Postby BravesGuy » Tue Oct 17, 2006 1:26 pm

"We're going to have to continue to look for a little more offense," he said. "We know that at this point, Pat has had a difficult time protecting [Ryan] Howard. We're going to have to continue to have to make an adjustment in that area. And naturally, we're going to have to continue to improve our pitching.

Pat has pretty good pop off the bat but that is about it. He makes too much money for what he does. A complete liability on defense and does not run well, etc.

They'll have to eat a lot of salary to move him is my guess.

They have been trying to move him since last off-season but a huge contract and a bad foot makes it near impossible.

Burrell is the sort of player the Giants would pick up.

Unfortunately for us Giants fans.... :-/

Anybody else see Burrell kinda of like a Burnitz Jr. sorta player? If that's the case, I could see the Pirates going for him if Philly agrees to pay part of his salary. We need someone to fill in for Burnitz...

With the possible departure of Burrell...

Phillies eyeing Sheffield, Soriano
October 17
PhillyBurbs.com: "Topping their wish list are two big names likely headed for free agency: New York Yankees right fielder/first baseman Gary Sheffield and Washington Nationals left fielder Alfonso Soriano... If the Yanks decline Sheffield's option, the Phils' biggest competition likely will be Atlanta."
