i dont think carp's ever gone on short rest but i guess there is a first time for everyone. while some have done it successfully there are also some disasterous examples. from 1998 to 2002 pitchers going on short rest in the playoffs had an aggregate era of 6.75 and a collective record of 3-13. also, having carp go two games last series and potentially three this season could leave him worn out and relatively ineffective should the cardinals advance. i'd be more inclined to take such a gamble in the world series.
