The Yankees need to make some serious changes. Like Michael Kay said in the postgame, going with all talent and emotionless businessmen on the field will not get it done. They need to add young talent that will show emotion and CARE what happens. For the Yanks that lost today, it was just another day at the office. It was said before the game that Torre did not even talk to his players. Nothing.
1st off: The following veterans should be gotten ridden of, even if their contract gives them a few more years:
Mussina (do NOT pick up that option!)
Giambi
A-Rod (ask him to waive the no-trade clause)
Randy (obvious)
Sheffield (obvious)
Lidle
Wright
Bernie
The following players should remain:
Cano
Matsui
Wang
Proctor
Farnsworth
Rivera
Jeter
Posada
Damon
Melky
Abreu
I honestly believe that the Yankees cannot win with so much talent and experience anymore - they need to trade some of it away for young guys.
Targets:
#1: Dontrelle Willis
- Daisuke Matsuzaka
- Mark Teahen
- Scott Kazmir
- Jeremy Sowers
- Carl Crawford
- Ervin Santana
- Scot Shields
- Hanley Ramirez
- Garrett Atkins
- Eric Byrnes
- Duaner Sanchez
...among many others
Players that need to be brought up:
1. Phil Hughes
2. Kevin Thompson
Trade possibilities (they're blockbusters, but the truth is, the Yankees should make a trade for younger guys, even if they DO lose "talent" - because the chemistry has to improve):
1. A-Rod + Giambi ---> Kazmir + Crawford
2. A-Rod ---> E. Santana + Shields
3. A-Rod + Giambi ---> Willis + Hanley
Final thoughts: Torre needs to be fired. Girardi needs to be hired. The entire team chemistry needs to improve dramatically, we need to get younger, more unproven guys that will show emotion, excitement, and flare.
I watch the Yankees these days, and they look just like a businessman looks in his cubicle - just another day at work, boring, sad. When you watch the Mets, and the Tigers, to name two, the players look HAPPY, excited.
Did anyone see the celebrating the Tigers did after they won? Can you picture the Yankees doing something like that in New York? I can't.
I want to.
