Am I crazy? Drop Bonds???

Postby Transmogrifier » Tue Sep 23, 2003 11:10 am

OK, I think I may be nuts. I'm really considering dropping Bonds. This is obviously not a keeper league, and I'm down nine homeruns, and tons of RBIs and Runs.

I could catch the guy in average... but rototimes says this about Bonds:
Barry Bonds (OF) SF will not play on Wednesday, and he could take off two of the Giants' final four home games, as well, according to the AP.

Meaning I may get three games out of him.

I need steals and am thinking of grabbing Crawford.

(By the way, Madison... I got into this cafe from work!)
I'm back. Sorta.

WOW! No guest tag this time :-D .

Well, since you have daily roster moves, I would play Bonds when he plays. Even if Bonds only plays 3 more games, what he can do with 3 games is just too valuable for me to cut.

You have to do what you have to do, to give yourself the best shot at winning, but personally, I wouldn't cut Barry.

Transmo...do you have anyone else you could drop for Crawford...then play Crawford when Barry sits....

Well, there are several problems. I have no bench. Just pitchers. My worst pitchers are two closers I just picked up--Reitsma and Lopez. But I'm down one save, and need them. If I cut them now, I won't get them back till Thursday or Friday, when they'll be little help. I need all my pitchers. I'm winning all but the save cat, and if I'm going to win this matchup, I need all my pitchers.

Tomorrow, I can cut Beckett, Morris and Zambrano, as they make their last starts tomorrow night. But then I'd have Bonds on my roster for one of his off nights.

I could cut Ordonez, but since he's playing regularly, I really can't do it. Bonds is the only one who is going to sit nearly half the games from here on out. Even if he plays three games, and hits two homeruns per game, that'd mean I'd still need four homeruns from my other players and my opponent not to get any homeruns.

*shaking my head as I rationalize this...*

And I forgot another thing....

I am currently without power and have been since the damn Hurricane hit DC. Thus, I am unable to regulary check my lineups and swap in Bonds or Crawford...

I cannot access the site from work (kind of like this one up until minutes ago), and the only way I can make moves is ask a friend who has power to do it for me.

So, it's one or the other for the rest of the week, unless I get power back soon.

Another thing to consider is that Crawford is in a big slump right now, so you might not really want him in your lineup until he gets out of it. He's hitting .172 with no steals in the last week.

Hmm. Good point. Would you suggest dropping him for Sanchez then? Or hoping Podsednik wins it for me?

Sanchez is hitting better in the last week but has 0 SB. I would probably just hope for Posednik to win it for you because SB output for all stolen base guys seems to be falling.

But he does have five SB in September. Perhaps it was a bad week?
