Well I guess it depends on how you look at it...![]()
It's against the Republican stance that "drugs are evil, and all should be outlawed" and it's closer to the Libertarian view of "what I do to myself is none of your business, leave me alone." So while the face of "conservatism" is probably the Republican party, I can see how my stance can be construed as conservative.![]()
Is that what you mean?
See, I certainly consider myself more of a liberal; however, I also identify with the libertarian view of small government, personal freedoms and pragmatism.
It just shows that there is no true "liberal" or true "conservative." We all have our ways of thinking and as much as we want to identify with all the views of the majority which shares them, we all have your ideas that contradict that.
Anyway, that's the cool part; some things have no right or wrong.
This looks like a good point for me to jump in.
Some may consider me one of the most conservative individuals on this board. In some ways this may be true, but when it comes to pot I dissagree with my beloved right. I think it should be legalized.
Just a few days ago I was expressing my views on this to, of all people, my mother. Points I made were the strain of the court and prison systems and the side by side comparrison with alcohol. I also think it would give farmers another cash crop. Then on top of that it would generate tax revenues for the government.
I don't think the effects of marijuana are so bad that it should be criminalized. This does not mean I think other drugs should be legal. I've seen coke, heroin and yes alcohol ruin lives. I've never seen pot ruin anyone's life. It may have sapped them of their motivation to get ahead in life, but never flat out ruin them unless it was through a legal matter.
I've never agreed with the reasons why pot was made illegal.
I've posted this link before but here it is again for those of you who didn't see it the last time or didn't read it in it's entirety.
