2006 Best Draft Steal: Ryan Howard 2nd: Carlos Beltran
3rd: Travis Hafner
4th:Matt Holliday
I gotta go with Papelbon, i drafted him with one of my last picks and he put up stud numbers for me even if he did get injured at the end of the season. Honorable mention goes out to Carlos Guillen and Matt Holliday who both overproduced where I drafted them by a pretty large amount.
The combination of power and OBP couldnt be beat. He was the best player on a team full of all-stars for about 5 months of the year.
2: Grady Sizemore
3: Bobby Abreu
4: Brian McCann
5: David Ortiz (31 HR, 87 RBI before trading him)
Team Cy Young: Brandon Webb
This was between Webb and Smoltz, and Webb was generally more consistent. Really close though!
2: John Smoltz
3: Trevor Hoffman
4: Brett Myers
5: CC Sabathia
Best draft pick: Jason Giambi
This is a contract keeper league so drafts are supplemental. I got Giambi in the 3rd round and he was great for about 4.5 months.
Worst pick: Esteban Loaiza. Terrible start and I dumped him after 4 starts.
Biggest steal: Brian McCann. I got him in the late rounds of the draft and he allowed me to trade V-Mart for some SB. He went on to hit 17 HR and 58 RBI since he became my starting C on July 15th.
Best trade: V-Mart, Ortiz, Nomar, for Figgins, Teixeira, Zito, Sabathia. Tex had 9HR at the time of the trade, Ortiz had 30. I needed SP and SB and I got it in this trade. McCann outslugged V-Mart the rest of the way. The only bad part about this trade is that Figgins made no difference in the SB ranks - my other guys stopped stealing once I got him.
Worst trade: Maddux and Lowry for Mussina and Lowell. Mussina I hardly used once I got him and Maddux was rejuvenated in LA.. allowed the guy I traded him to move ahead of me in wins. Lowell was good but nothing special.
9 team league. Carlos Lee in round 5. Lance Berkman in round 6. Grady Sizemore in round 9. And all finished the season as top 25 offensive players by Yahoo's rankings.
Getting Papelbon, Verlander, and Willingham from the free agent list helped too.
W/ all due respect to Hafner, it has to be J Dye. My #3 OF spot was very much a question mark at the start of the season. Last pick of the draft. I remember saying in late april that I wished that either he or tracy would seperate from the other, and man did he ever. Most consistent player all season. OF went from decent to fantasy elite because of him.
Hafner probably would have been except he got hurt.
Holliday deserves consideration, but he really put up his huge numbers when my league was already decided.
Fair play to Furcal also for filling a hole the second half of the season very nicely.
