Jeter is definately a more consistant hitter I don't think anyone (even Gordon) would dispute that. The way he grinds out AB and consistantly gets on base is more valuable offensively than Rollins contribution. In the field it's reversed though and the one thing Rollins does have over Jeter is that at least he is best SS on his own team. Same can't be said for Jeter. That's not meant as a knock on Jeter either, just that by any obfective look ARod plays that position better.

a-rod "played" the position better in texas and seattle. we have no way of knowing whether he would in NY. He has done everything else worse, so I for one, believe his defense at SS would suffer just as much.

What.. as in hit? There are only 2 sides to it - offense and defense.
So basically A-Rod is a fielding shortstop than Jeter, and he's equal or better than Jeter at the plate.
As for Flash, I don't see why we have to make a big deal everytime someone says something. Players seldom say what they truly believe. If Flash said that Jeter is a better shortstop than Rollins, that would stir the pot. But being Rollins' teammate, Gordon's statement can simply be shrugged off as teammate speak.
[quote:4fef447375="Geek"]The odds of the AL MVP coming from the American League are looking pretty good.[/quote]
What else was he supposed to say??? Rollins is his teammate now, not Jeter. I don't agree with him, but in a pennant race, sometimes you have to say things to pump your teammates up a notch.
Jeter was by far the best SS in baseball this year, his defense was even above average this year for some reason. He has a commanding lead in win shares and the gap is not small at all. Regardless of how overrated he's been in the past he should win the MVP this season.
