Honestly I have no idea. The Mets should have trampled everyone in the NL, but they haven't looked good recently, and with a shaky pitching staff, I'm not sure what to expect from them.
I'd like to first see who gets in the playoffs before making my pick. I think you have to go with the hottest team at the time though, because I don't see any other real huge advantages from one team over another.
I will be rooting for Houston if they make it in. I just don't know if they have enough offense to beat the Padres in Round 1 or the Mets in the League Championship Series.
If the Astros squeak by into the playoffs, I think they have the best shot just given the strength of their pitching staff.
It's anyone's pennant really. Of course, I'm going to vote for the Dodgers. There are a ton of what-ifs with the Dodgers and they're a rag-tag bunch that somehow puts it all together at certain times. Honestly, picking them to win is like taking a stab in the dark, but I tell ya what, if Maddux, Penny, and Lowe can hold the fort, if Kuo can eat up some solid innings here ane there, if the lead gets into Broxton's and Saito's hands, and if the top of the order continues to hit well, the Dodgers do have a chance.
I believe the Mets have enough firepower, and they'll have to rely on their offense for the most part, to will their way into the Series and the key for them, like the Dodgers, is for their starting pitchers to keep them into the game enough for the Mets' bats and the bullpen to keep rolling.
Picking the Padres is just like pitching the Dodgers. They hit well collectively as a team and they're atrocious when they don't. The difference here is on paper, their pitching staff is better and their bullpen is a proven strength over ours in Chavez Ravine.
