LA Daily News wrote: KANSAS CITY, Mo. - There is one more name to add to the list of targets the Angels might set their sights on this offseason. Owner Arte Moreno said Tuesday that he guarantees a major acquisition this offseason. If by major he means big names, it might not get any bigger than Alex Rodriguez. Despite solid offensive numbers this season, Rodriguez is in the midst of a torturous season when it comes to how the NewYork Yankees fans have received him. Various struggles also have earned the wrath of the New York media. At the July 31 nonwaiver trade deadline, it came up that perhaps Rodriguez needs a fresh start. Judging by the content of an article on Rodriguez for the upcoming edition of Sports Illustrated, that might be true. According to the SI story, a month ago teammate Jason Giambi challenged his teammate to rise to the occasion and told manager Joe Torre to stop coddling the superstar. Johnny Damon said Rodriguez was not getting the job done. One teammate said Rodriguez might need glasses, and another said he appears to be afraid of the ball. No big deal, many Yankees said Wednesday, trying to light a fire under their teammate. Still, it doesn't seem to be going well in New York for the $252million man unless you consider this: Rodriguez was batting .286 before play Wednesday with 34 home runs and 116 RBIs. Not bad for a scared guy who can't see and is failing his club. When ESPN gave considerable air time to the SI story, many in the Angels clubhouse scoffed at the absurdity of a player with Rodriguez's numbers embroiled in a controversy. If money truly is no object, then Rodriguez will find his way to the Angels' wish list. "The economics aren't going to be any kind of hurdle at all," Moreno said Tuesday. Subtracting the part of salary the Texas Rangers will pick up, the Yankees are scheduled to pay Rodriguez $16million next season. By comparison, Bartolo Colon will make $14million, while Vladimir Guerrero will make $13.5million. Rodriguez won't come cheaply. The Yankees figure to ask for no less than Ervin Santana, Scot Shields, Chone Figgins and a high-level prospect.
Not sure that I what I would think about that trade. I don't think I would be against it, but I'm just not sure what kind of package a guy like ARod should bring.
I saw that. Did not think much of it. A-Choke has a no-trade clause so unless he wants to go, there is no way to get rid of him. Of course if he stinks up October and we lose again, he will be referring to the summe rof 2006 as the good old days in NY.
Also, that package I would think is not nearly enough to get he Yanks to think about it even with all choking. Maybe if Jered Weaver was involved...oh wait a minute, we went down a Weaver path of destruction before so let's not do it again.
One thing I was wondering is who would the prospect be? Only two who really come to mind are Brandon Wood or Howie Kendrick (even though he really isn't a prospect anymore).

Yanks do not need Kendrick. And he has hardly impressed. In fact, the Angels seem to have been stock-piling losing prospects recently. Macpherson, Kotchman, etc. Outside of Weaver, they have not been very impressive to say the least.
Wood would have no place to play either. The only position likely to be opening in a couple of years is C for the Yanks. In fact, the Yanks would likely want a pitching prospect rather than another hitter imo.

I would imagine they would want to get as many pitchers as possible if they dealt Arod.

There's a very credible argument that they'd be a better
team if they traded A-Rod for more pitching. He stunk up the field for the middle half of the season, and they still cruised to a division title.
Quite honestly, if he's not going to deliver postseason hits, it makes a ton of sense to trade him.
i keep hearing rumblings the angels are gonna steal aramis from the cubbies. he has a really strange contract that allows him two weeks at the end of this season to test some sort of free agency. if someone throws 15 mill at aramis there's no way the cubs match it.
Some might suggest Vernon Wells for ARod as an offseason trade, considering Wells will definitely be on the market and will probably be traded if a good offer comes up, however I highly doubt Rodriguez would leave New York to come to Toronto, so I don't think anything will happen there.
As for this Angels rumour, it probably isn't likely considering how massive a deal (in terms of the changing of contracts/money) it will be, and the fact that ARod can just turn down the deal if he wants to, but the L.A. Angels might be one of the few teams he might join, so you never really know (especially if the Yankees don't win again this year, and he gets blamed again for their failure).
