Why would the White Sox bench Thome when they're trying to catch up in the wild card race? All Thome does is come to bat 4 times a game anyways. It's not like it takes much of a physical toll on his body.

It is all going to depend on the standings. Thome isn't going to sit unless the ChiSox are out of it. Rolen will get an extra or 2 off because the Cards don't have any off days left but should play most days..

ARod might take some time off to help out his BP pitcher buy a new home. He also will need some time off to fly to the SI Banquet honoring Tom Verducci and give a speech. But first he will have to have the script prepared by his PR men.

Carl Pavano reportedly is out for the year... He is still trying to get that extra 50 K from his agent though.

Lance Berkman is reportedly going to take some time off as he wants to see want a AA offense really would look like.

Atkins and Holliday will reportedly follow Berman's lead to see what a Rookie league offense at altitude looks like.

Pedro will be taking some time off to rest for the playoffs under a mango tree.

Johnny Damon will need a day off to sign all the "Take that Epstein" cards he will be sending out to Massachusetts soon.

Barry Zito may miss his last start of the year to open up the various new bank accounts he will need as a free agent.
