Man plummets 50 feet to grab missing $20

Tue Sep 19, 11:52 PM ET

PALMETTO, Fla. - Mark Giorgio figured a 50-foot fall was worth $20. Giorgio, 47, was counting his money Monday while walking across the U.S. 41 bridge over the Manatee River when a $20 bill blew out of his hand and flew over the rail.

He followed. And plummeted 50 feet into the river.

Then he swam about 100 yards to fish the bill from the water.

"I got my money back, hell yeah," Giorgio told the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. "Twenty bucks is a lot of money when you're broke."

He was fished from the water by a passing Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer. Giorgio, who said he was already suffering from a broken collarbone, refused treatment for cuts and scrapes he suffered in the fall.

Jerusalem? Never heard of it

Wed Sep 20, 8:27 AM ET

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Something always gets lost in translation, but usually not an entire city.

"Jerusalem. There is no such city!" the Jerusalem municipality said in the English-language version of a sightseeing brochure it had published originally in Hebrew.

The correct translation: "Jerusalem. There is no city like it!"

Carrying a photograph of the brochure, Israel's Maariv newspaper said Wednesday tens of thousands of flyers had been distributed before city hall realized its mistake.

But it was a river. I know of rivers shallow enough that you'd hit bottom if you jumped from 50 feet up. :-o Not to mention the kinds of things you find in rivers. :-P

Why'd you jump off of 50 ft bridges? Did you have a thick rubberband tied to your feet or just enjoy the plunge?

Just enjoyed it. I've always been a fan of jumping off of things into water. Bridges, cliffs, waterfalls, rocks...whatever. Although, as Madison mentioned, I always knew how deep the water was, and what was in it before jumping.

I have yet to go skydiving or bungee jumping, though I really want to. I don't like swimming, so I'd stay away from jumping off of bridges into rivers. I might go for one off of a cliff, but it wouldn't be a river. :-o

Geez 50 feet that scares me. My cousin had a buddy and they used to go bridge jumping.

One time his buddy went to jump off a bridge 100+ my cousin declined which is amazing cuz he's crazy.

His buddy was found like 4 days later.

I don't do bridge jumping..
I'm too lazy to make a sig at the moment

I've gone cliff diving, up to 80 ft.

The locals in Mexico, Jamaica, etc. will go over 120'.

But diving into a river, where I'm sure you can't see the bottom, is just retarded, and breaks the first rule of jumping into things - see your landing.
