I wasn't sure whether to put this here, or in General Talk, but anyway:

I knew Syd personally and would consider him a friend, though not necessarily a really close friend. I used to talk with him a couple times a week at least. Just being able to talk baseball with someone who knew so much about the game was both enlightening and humbling. Also, as a scout, he found some great players. He was never a great player, and truthfully, he wasn't a great executive either, but he was a damn good scout. Anyway...RIP Syd, even though we haven't spoken in more than six months, this news has made me pretty sad today. You will be missed.
