OK it is panic time. As such all logic and rational thought is out.

I hate the Astros. It has always been a fun and friendly competition with them but no more. This is the 3rd year in a row they are trying to pull off a next to impossible comeback and I've had enough. Your stadium is a joke and Biggio might be the anti-Christ. Nothing is going to make to happier than seeing you sitting home in October.

I hate the Padres. Does everyone on the team have a mullet? And why are the road uniforms so ugly? Is that to distract the other team? We will see you in the first round and we will send you home again.

I hate the Reds. Why the Reds? Cause they might be the only team more hapless than the Cardinals and that deserves my scorn.

I hate everything else. I hate seeing eye singles and botched defensive plays. I hate pitching giving up the lead 5 seconds after we get it. I hate consistantly missing out on scoring opportunities. I HATE INCONSISTANCY! And I hate whoever is reading this.

BTW - If you can't tell already this was done as a joke, mostly.


Seriously, the pressure may be on but I'd still rather be the team with the lead than the team trying to catch up. Get it together, focus, and go out and win some games. Shut everyone up and take that fire into the playoffs.

I was a big fan of a Mulder-for-Abreu deal, even before he went in the tank.

And we should have traded for Maddux. I'd bet that Hector Luna could have been the centerpiece in that swap.

I will admit that there wasn't too much to trade for this past season, but when your trades are Luna-for-Belliard and WhatshisfaceMinorLeaguer-for-Sosa, you could have done better.

We weren't going to take on the Abreu salary, and Maddux was trash before he went to LA. That deal is only good in hindsight. Anyways, our bullpen was what really needed help, and that was where we needed to improve. I wish we could have got Cordero, but like the Maddux trade, that's a deal that looks better now than it did when it was made. Besides, the Brewers had to give up Lee to get him. If that's the going rate for a "washed up" closer, we were out of our league from the beginning.

And looking back, I like the Belliard deal more and more each day. It certainly was not a earth-shattering move, but he's added some reasonable consistency to a position that was greatly in need of it.

In the end, the Cardinals are going to make the post season while retaining the ability to make good moves this off-season. They did the right thing by not getting overzealous this year at the expense of next year. The real test will come this off season. If they don't make some big moves there will be some ears burning in the Cards front office as fans start complaining that the team has become a cash cow for the owners who just received a new stadium.

Agreed. I'm sure after this past deadline there's a few people asking why we didn't get someone big, but that'll be nothing compared to the uproar if they just sit on the team this winter.
