Alfonso Soriano was a 40/40 man this year. Any minor league players with that kind of potential?

40/40??? Well since it has only been done 4 times in ML history, I think it would be crazy to say a minor leaguer should be a 40/40 player. I would guess that Delmon Young would be the best bet, but I still don't think he will be stealing 40 bases when his power finally arrives to 40 homers. He very well could steal 30-40 bases over the next few years while his power is closer to 20, but once his power arrives, I think his steals will fall off a bit.

Thanks. I agree with you and I am not expecting a 40/40 guy, just looking for the potential. I came up with Delmon Young too, but he actually went in our draft this year.

Cameron Maybin is another guy who could be 30/30 and maybe...MAYBE...40/40 some day. I agree with Raiders Umpire, you can't really seek out 40/40 guys...one is born what every 10 years?

Dukes hasn't swiped as many bases in AA and AAA as he did in A and A+. His success rates (67.86% in AA; 69.23% in AAA) show that he has a lot of work to do if he is going to become a good major league base stealer.

Does anyone have an opinion of Jacoby Ellsbury?

I do.
Want to hear it?

:-)

OK. I like him a lot.
Am I a homer. Maybe.
Patrolling center in Fenway by 2008? Definitely.
40/40? No shot.
20/40? Maybe sometime around 2011, but that's obviously the most optimistic expectation. He has all of 7 HR in 442 minor league at bats. But he could develop some power as he fills out. I don't think the Damon comparisons are fair because at the same age Damon was the Royals full time center fielder. I'd be happy with something like 15/35...like Crisp was supposed to give us :-/

I'm a Red Sox fan living in the Bronx so pray for me.

I like everything I hear about Ellsbury, but I agree he probably won't produce power numbers. I'd be happy to get anything near 20 HR with 40 SB and a .300 avg.

But then, i'm rooting just llike you are.
