2007 Draft

Postby BritSox » Sat Sep 09, 2006 12:48 pm

Is there anyone out there right now who looks like he might be making an outstanding case for himself as the no1 pick? Who are the contenders at this early stage?

2007 is looking to be very good indeed.

Matt Wieters, David Price, Matt Mangini, Andrew Brackman all will be drafted very high with Price and Wieters possibly the top 2.

I think David Price will be the leading candidate to go 1:1 when June 07 rolls around. 6'6" lefty, high K/9 and solid K/BB, legit mid 90's heat, already throws three pitches for strikes, crazy peripheral numbers.

Wieters is a great hitter and should be a top 5 pick, but it's hard to guess how high he will go since he will probably switch positions.

A ton of high ceiling high school players will get drafted in the first few rounds this year, the crop looks to be much better than the 06 draft.

Yeah, Wes Roemer was pretty solid for Cal State Fullerton last season.

He's not that big (6-foot-0, 180-pounds) and as I recall he doesn't throw too hard (low 90s, I think), but he maintained a 0.86 WHIP on the season, as walked just 9 batters all season.

If he builds upon his sophomore season 8.42K/9 rate, he could end up being taken in the first round of the 2007 draft.

Yes, Slowey looks like a pretty good comparison for Roemer. Good call ;-D .
