Maloney's numbers are pretty nice, but keep in mind that he accumulated them in Lakewood (A). So, he probably isn't going to crack many - if any - top 100 lists heading into next season.
A 6-foot-4 lefty who features a good changeup, Maloney began his junior year in college as the University of Mississippi’s closer. He went on to start before long and became the team's best starter. His secondary pitches include a slider and a curveball. His fastball was sitting around 90 mph last year.
The Phillies has taken it slow with Maloney so far, likely because he showed up with a dead arm after being drafted last year. It will be interesting to see what level the Phillies put him at in 2007. AA Reading seems like the appropriate test.
