Maybin May Be Called Up

Postby bigwords » Thu Sep 07, 2006 3:42 pm

According to the Fantasy 411 MLB.com podcast, a source inside the Tigers organization indicated that Cameron Maybin could be called up soon. Obviously, this would be huge, not necessarally because Maybin would contribute this year -- he'd probably only be a pinch runner -- but because it would start his arbitration clock and the Tigers would have no hesitancy in bringing him up in future years, possibly next.

Enough caveats and conditional phrases, I know, but still very, very interesting.

I haven't heard this. Sounds like a crazy rumor to me. Maybin's team is still in the playoffs, so we'll probably find out around the time his team finishes up play. I have heard reports and have said as much on this forum that they were going to seriously consider aggressively promoting Maybin beginning next year. Doing it so soon would surprise me, but the fact is the Tigers DO lack speed in a big way right now.

I'm calling BS on this report, there's really no reason they would call him up at this point unless Dombrowski is just getting really full of himself.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying it's going to happen. I'm just passing along a report by a guy who works for Major League Baseball. I find it suspect as well, but there are crazier things that have happened. If the Tigers really think this is their championship year and Maybin can help...who knows.
For the record, I'm the guy who thought Longoria would make it to the major leagues before Maybin did.

I can't find anything to support these rumors. I'm going to agree that it is likely BS for the time being. The more I think about it, the more farfetched it seems. But I'm not the one running the team, so who knows?
