Cardinals Closer Situation

From Bernie Miklasz (local sportswriter):
Izzy's left hip -- which has been problematic in the past -- is bothering him again... all the more reason why it's so strange that LaRussa went back with him again today, after Izzy threw 28 pitches in the 9th inning Wednesday.

LaRussa really needs to stop putting him out there in the 9th. 33/43 with a bad hip is not what you want to take into the playoffs.

I am so sick of the local STL media and the Cardinals coming up for a medical excuse everytime a player does poorly. Apparrently no one can just be bad, they have to be hurt. :-t

word now is that Izzy might need total hip replacement in the offseason, thus ending his career.

That isn't a joke.

He's got serious problems with his hip.

Looks like Duncan is talking about a closer by committee. Feels like Looper is better against righties and Wainwright against lefties. (edit: This is if they decide to shut Izzy down; he's supposed to be seeing the docs soon.)

Should be interesting.
When you are a man, sometimes you wear stretchy pants in your room...is for fun.

Actually, if you read through the thread, Bernie makes no excuses for him. He just says that Izzy's an aging closer who's wearing down. (One of his posts even says "Izzy sucks").

Izzy's been LaRussa's golden boy for too long. He'll be sticking with him the rest of the season, unless Izzy suddenly develops an Ankiel-like tendency to put the ball nowhere near the strike zone.

Still can't believe we're paying this clown $8.75 million to blow a quarter of his games. :-/

Cards need to pick up a new closer this offseason. Dotel looks like a good option.

Given the current options I'd take Looper. He's looked better this year than he did with the Mets in 05. HR and BB are down and K's are up.

By the way, does anybody want to join the (anti-) fan club? :-D

Nothing special. Just means that I was the first one in. :-b

(It's also in reference to an in-joke among me and my buddies, but that would take too long to explain.)
