I would give Mathieson a shot. His K rate has not been bad, and even though he does not have ace potential, I think he could become a solid pitcher in the majors in the future.

I would avoid Mathieson and go with Gorzelanny. Rumor has it that he might need TJ surgery:

Scott Mathieson is off to see Dr. Lewis Yocum for a possible torn ligament in his elbow.

It looks like he might require Tommy John surgery for the injury he suffered in Saturday's game. Such a procedure would cost him most or all of 2007.
