I really want to see this movie. Is it good? Is it worth it just to see Whitaker act in it?
Whitaker was awesome. I thought the movie was great. I didn't see Iwo Jima or the Queen but LKOS was better than the other nominations IMHO.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
I don't. I didn't lock it. But I could probably take a stab at it...

I love that Scorcese won, but I agree about the ending. I would have given it a 10 up until the last 20 minutes or so, it dropped down to an 8.5 for me. I thought LMS was good, but The Departed was better.

I don't think this was a throwback, homage or anything else like that. Scorsese never saw Infernal Affairs until after the Departed was completed. The screenwriter based his script on it, and obviously watched it, but made a lot of changes including the ending. I just think the ending was poorly orchestrated.
Well the ending was the way it was because they had to fit three 2 hours films into one three hour film.
"I do not think baseball of today is any better than it was 30 years ago... I still think Radbourne is the greatest of the pitchers." John Sullivan 1914-Old athletes never change.
I just think that a movie has to stand on it's own even if it draws from source material.

I watched it last night, and yeah, I'd have to agree with you. I thought it was better than every movie nominated with the exception of Iwo Jima (and possibly The Queen, as I have not seen that). Whitaker nailed his role as Amin perfectly, and I can certainly see why he won.
