An MRI exam of Carlos Zambrano's back Tuesday revealed no significant damage.
"There is some muscular skeletal spasms that are protecting what you would call early signs of degeneration in his lower back, which athletes are prone to get," trainer Mark O'Neal said. Zambrano, who made the choice to pitch Monday even though he was sore going in, indicated that he was in no rush to return. "I want to pitch, but I can't risk my career for this," he said.
No rush to return?! Doesnt he know that my playoffs are next week and I need him to pitch!?!

News: Cubs manager Dusty Baker said nothing has changed with RHP Carlos Zambrano on Wednesday. An MRI exam of Zambrano's back on Tuesday revealed no significant damage, but it was unclear when he would be able to pitch again for the Cubs.
Analysis: This is not good news for Zambrano owners. Probably the ace of not only the Cubs staff, but yours. you will have to go elsewhere to find pitching help down the stretch. If you have an injured-reserve spot on your team, use it on Zambrano. If not, search the waiver wire in hopes of someone to help ease the pain of his absence from your team.
Carlos Zambrano, who played catch on Friday, says he wants to try to make three or four more starts this year.
Earlier in the week, Zambrano didn't appear overly hurried to return from his back injury, suggesting he did not want to risk his career over it. Now, he's changed his tune. "I don’t want to miss the season," he said. "I don’t want to quit. I’m not going to shut it down. I’m going to do the best possible to make 3-4 more starts and finish strong." It's unclear why the Cubs would want Zambranbo to rush back. All that's left for them is trying to avoid the NL cellar.
