Anyone notice.....kendall?

Postby BitterDodgerFan » Mon Sep 04, 2006 3:35 pm

Anyone notice that jason kendall has been a solid catcher since july? yahoo has him as the top catcher within the past month. as long as you're not looking for power, he's been pretty solid.

August: .385 avg, 13 rbi, 18 runs, 3 sb.

Post all star: .340 avg, 16 rbi, 36 runs, 4 sb.
(10 more runs than pre all star with a month to go)

no homers though, except the one he back in may.

He's the perfect case of a catcher who is ok in real life (hitting-wise) but a real bust fantasy-wise. He's better in leagues that include walks or OBP, but his lack of power just kills his value.

He's always been a fairly decent catcher, so seeing a spike in his numbers for a while isn't too surprising.

I think most people don't see him as being a good catcher because he puts one over the fence slightly more often than we have presidential elections. ;-7

He's been one of the most added players for a little bit now, what with Barrett going down for the season now and all.

yea kendall was just right for me because i own a 12 in HR category by 20+ homers. i can see that he can be less attractive if you are in a tight HR race. but then theres not that many reliable power catchers that dont kill your avg.

Agreed, he doesn't need the power to be valuable to a team. I don't have him, but he'd be a nice fit for me also considering I get power elsewhere.

he has been a nice surprise, i picked him up at the beginning of august. before that i probably went through 6-7 catchers and for a month or so i didn't have a catcher on my team.

Yeah just picked him up today to replace Barrett in a league that also counts doubles, triples, OBP and batter K's. He is very good in our format and actually pretty good in 5x5, too. People gripe about him being a 3-cat catcher, but he pretty much gives the same cats as OF's like Pierre and Podsednik: runs, steals, average. And at a much thinner position than OF. If you have a team with power in other slots, he can work.........

I would be one of the ones who added him for that reason. I'm giving him a few days, while I track Laird.
