Let's think about it.
Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa don't deserve consideration because of they cheated.
That leaves Maris and Ruth atop the heap.
If Howard isn't cheating, we are looking at history here.
Thoughts?

I'll tell you one thing:
This thread will be a "Bonds used/didn't use steroids" argument by page 3.
But if Howard does hit 62, it's going to spur some serious discussion on the subject.

I do think Bonds did steroids, but I don't know for a fact. I also think McGwirse and Sosa did roids, but don't know for a fact.
So if he does hit 62, I won't view him as the single season home run king, I'll just view him as a guy who had 1 hell of a season.

But, he will be one of three guys who hit 60+ without any suspicion of cheating.
If the media picks that up, he could wind up winning NL MVP after all.

And what happens if a rumor starts spreading that Howard used some kind of performance enhancing drug? I don't believe that he did, but I do believe there will be some kind of negative talk regarding Howard in that respect, which is pretty sad.

It would rank him 7th. So I'd have to say no.

You mean like Flax seed oil? Oh I forgot, the Bonds apologists believe in that their man is Mr. Clean.
Simple fact is Selig (erhhh Skeletor) is not going to open this can of worms and try to repudiate the seasons of Bonds, Sosa or Mcgwire. The fans and writers can proclaim these players records a sham (and rightfully so), but baseball will continue to recognize them. So this whole argument is moot.

How may times did any flunk a test or get suspended? It's all moot.
