Chipper scratched

Postby The Big Train » Sun Sep 03, 2006 4:34 pm

Chipper Jones was scratched from today's double-header against the Phillies with a sore left oblique. No word yet on how long he may be sidelined.

He missed the first game because the oblique bothers him the most when hitting from the right side of the plate and the Phillies had a left-hander on the mound. Played in the second game with a righty starting. Take note: the Braves play the Mets this week and the Mets are projected to have a left hander starting on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

Chipper sidelined at least a week

When the Braves head to Shea Stadium with the slim postseason hopes still alive this week, they'll be battling the Mets without Chipper Jones. The veteran third baseman will miss at least a week and possibly longer with a strained left oblique.

Jones, who was on the disabled list from July 29-Aug. 13 with the same ailment, aggravated the injury while swinging and missing a pitch in the ninth inning of the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Phillies.

"He'll be finished for a little while," Braves manager Bobby Cox said, while adding there's "no chance" that Jones will play in this week's series against the Mets.
