strategy if winning every pitching category on Sunday?

Postby kage812004 » Sun Sep 03, 2006 9:23 am

if your winning every pitching category on Sunday and your opponent has no SP going but u do is it wise to just bench your SP for the day and try and keep the lead that u have. im up 9-1 right now and if i hold this lead ill be the #1 seed in my league.

he obviosly has couple closers in his lineup but i dont think they will make that much of a difference? should i bench 1.all of my pitchers including closers or 2.just my 2 SP going today or3. just start everyone like i normally would

How big is ur lead? If you have a 2 game lead in wins and 3-4 saves, then you can bench all your pitchers bc he cannot catch up. If you only lead 1 in each category, then you have to start pitchers bc he can catch up easily.

wins...4-0
saves....9-3
K.....38-20
ERA...3.29-6.29
WHIP...1.40-1.81

so, should i bench every pitcher with those kinds of leads? he has no starters going today and 4closers.

Definitely bench all of your SP. If you feel like it, bench all of your RP as well. Even if you leave your closers in, you won't lose any of those cats. Either way, bench all or some of them.

With such a big league in all those cats, it really won't matter.

I don't think that it matters for you, either. You can safely bench Olsen or all of them.

2 answer the 2 of ures, yes bench all you have a good enough lead...

i have a similar thread and basically the same question
http://www.fantasybaseballcafe.com/foru ... p?t=237805

I am winning in my H2H matchup this week, today is the last day, the score is 12-1-1

Here are the categories and respective scores: (only pitching, that's where i need the advice, min. ip is only 5 ip)

W 2-0
L 0-2
SV 5-3
K 16-7
CG 1-0
WHIP 0.84-1.30
ERA 1.89-3.52

(me: 19 ip,3bb,13h,4er & opponent: 7.66ip,2bb,8h,3er)

I am winning all 7 pitching categories...

Basically I countered his strategy all week...His strategy is to start solely his closers which is all he has (nathan, jones, saito, & ryan)...i countered with my 5 closers; mcclung, mastny, wickman, otsuka, and f. cordero...i only started c. carpenter this week and got a W and CG which i was hoping for...so basically my strategy has worked out so far so good...

Now here's the $1 million dollar question...Since i have a comfortable lead here, do i bench my 5 closers today so there is no risk of any blown saves and make his closers beat me? i can realistically only see him coming back and tying or beating me in saves out of all those categories...thoughts?

I think I'd sit all your guys. The ERA/WHIP lead looks sizable, but the IPs are so low that one blow-up from your guys could cost you those cats. Sitting everyone the worst you do is 6-1. Pitching everyone you could conceivably go 3-4. Unless the standings are so close you NEED to go 7-0, I'd play it safe.
