Best offseason signing (so far)?

Postby Half Massed » Sat Sep 02, 2006 1:57 am

Who do you think has been the best free agent signing in terms of value relative to contract?

I'd say Thomas for sure. Borowski and Valentin have been good values also.

Isn't this a thread about best bargains, and not best offseason signings? I suppose they're almost the same thing...Anyway, it's has to be Frank Thomas. Incredibly cheap price for what he's brought to the table.

The Jays should have signed him in the offseason (they were rumoured to be talking to his agent at the Winter Meetings) instead of keeping that team cancer, Hillenbrand. Maybe they wouldn't have actually laid down and died at the beginning of August if they had gotten Frank.

Easily Frank Thomas. His numbers are amazing, I mean he's putting up very nice numbers for a $500,000 base salary.

Mike Piazza at $2 million, Frank Thomas at $2 million ($2.2 if he gets 500 plate appearances), and Eric Byrnes at $2.25 million have all been some nice deals. If you factor in how the name recognition affects attendance, then the first two look even better.

Borowski HAS to get some love here. 32 saves with a month left to play...

That kind of value for $327,000 is unheard of! Wagner who has 1 more save and 1 more blown save is earning $10,500,000.
