If he's a FA they will get no money for him if I'm correct.
Teams will throw tons of money at him so they might as well do it

Well obviously... But he won't be a FA until after 08. So they can keep him for 07 then post him instead of posting him now. He is their only draw and would lose a ton of revenue if he is off the team.
"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." ~George Carlin
That list shrinks a bit when you cosinder the players with team options. Edmonds, Buehrle, Glavine, Smoltz, are just the ones I know off the top of my head.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Lee Zito Buerhle Schmidt Aram Sheff SORANIO Glavine Maddux Clemens Wood Bonds Edmonds DYE Huff Hunter Pettitte Smoltz Thomas
How can you call that slim pickings?
Well, I know for a fact all of those guys won't be free agents. Some of them have options, such as Edmonds and Buehrle. On another note, who do you think on this list is an impact player? Zito and Schmidt are pretty large question marks, and I'm sure both will have pretty large price tags attached to their pitching arms.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike

As far as impact players go I'd be willing to say that Soriano, Lee, Sheff, and Dye can all be impact players on the hitting side. While Smoltz and Schmidt should make an impact on the pitching side.
