Is Tejada overrated?

Yahoo has Tejada ranked #4 for SS this year.

Is Tejada overrated? SS is the new speed position. Reyes, Ramirez, Lopez and Furcal all have 30 + Sb's. Jeter and Rollins should hit the 30 mark before the end of the season. Tejada is a great SS, with his high BA and RBI total. BUT he is still a #2 round type guy? Anyone think his numbers are inflated because of his ss position? With so many quality SS out there (Reyes, Jeter, Rollins, Glaus, H. Ramirez, Guillén, Hall, É. Rentería, N. Garciaparra and not to forget Weeks, Peralta or Young) is it too much to put Tejada as a top 24 player?

I wouldnt say he is overrated. Tejada hasnt missed a game in forever, and he puts up a good AVG and good power #'s from a scarce position.

I would say he's not as valuable as he once was, but still a great player and not overrated.

You forgot to list his RBI's ..

I think SB's are overrated personally, especially when you can routinely pull guys like Taveras or Roberts off the wire if you do your homework.

.330/30 hr's/100 runs/100 rbis is nothing to sneeze at from a MI, and Tejada is on pace to have one of his better years.
I would still take him in the top 24.

What if you can trade Tejada for a 1st baseman or 3rd basebman who posts 40 hr, 100rbi with a 300 avg? I would take that guy over Tejada, and grab a speedy SS like Guillén or Ramirez in the later rounds.

he's definitely not overrated.

.330 with around 25 HR's and 85 RBI's is great production from any position. Surprisingly, Yahoo has him ranked 50th overall this season, which is insane.

Is SS deeper than it has been in years sure, but until Clint Barmes, Jorge Cantu, Johnny Peralta and Delmon Young show some consistency, I am going to go with Tejada, and take my chances on guys like Konerko and Morneau for my corner

Definitely not. Tejada's in the middle of the best hitting season in his career right now, and he's not showing any signs of slowing down.

I agree with WR. I still rank Tejada the top ss, or at least right there with Jeter and Reyes. He's top 24 easy, especially in a keeper. Guys like Rollins aren't consistent enough. M Young is the overated ss imo.

If you take into account he's off steroids now, his numbers wont be as good as 2004 and prior. But he'll still get you 25 homers and 100 RBI's a year.
