Look at the competition he has fought over the last three years: Lindland, Shogun, Ninja, Arona, Wanderlei Silva, CHUCK LIDDELL, Bustamante, Randleman... This guy needs warm-up fights like I need another pound on my gut.
I'm not saying that Rampage needs a warmup fight but I think that the UFC could do with a little more build up. Maybe have Jackson fight Rashad, Bonnar or Griffin first, somebody that the fans that don't follow Pride are more familiar with.
Got it. Yeah I agree with that but with Sherdog announcing the PRIDE purchase makes a little more sense why they'd push it up.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
Apparently. It has been rumored 4 times since the new year but never had the people backing the story who are now. I guess the last four times were smoke and this might be the fire. Supposedly there will be press conferences on Wednesday.
Edit: Semi-update...
However Sherdog.com's sources continue to suggest the sale is imminent, going so far as to say an announcement could come a week from Tuesday. Various reports attributing Sherdog.com as suggesting an announcement would come this Wednesday are erroneous.
On Monday evening MMAWeekly.com claimed to have confirmed the rumor of Dream Stage Entertainment's sale of PRIDE, yet their report, which cited an anonymous PRIDE executive, stopped short of calling it a done deal.
Edit: Another update... very close now...
Dave Meltzer wrote:Nobuyuki Sakakibara yesterday told several members of the U.S. Pride staff that the company is in the proces of being sold to Lorenzo & Frank Fertitta. He said the agreement in principal is done but there are still some minor points to be worked out and the contract is not signed. Sakakibara said he would be leaving the company but that everyone would be keeping their jobs. The company would be operated separately from UFC, but obviously UFC could use any Pride fighter for a big match that it needed.

Liddell vs. Rampage has been confirmed by the UFC.
Also, on Beatdown radio they just announced the the sale of PRIDE has been finalized. Official announcement expected WED. Sold for $65M to the Fertitta brothers (owners of the UFC and casinos).
Chad, not sure what you mean by "ready for Randy".
Whoops. You know who I meant. Chuck.
