According to the Associated Press, the Diamondbacks will pay $6.3 million of the approx. $12.75 million Shawn Green has left on his contract.

Green is owed just under $1.75 million from his $8 million this year and has a salary of $9.5 million next year. His contract calls for a $10 million club option in 2008 with a $2 million buyout. New York will receive $500,000 this year and most of the remainder Arizona owes next season.

Nice. I like the trade. It's a decent price if the Mets keep him but at the same time the contract seems movable.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Good move by the Mets to grab another bat for their lineup. Delgado will be happy as well. Green and him were good friends back in Toronto.

I like this move a lot for the Mets, this is going to give them a nice insurance policy come the playoffs. Mets are looking solid indeed.

I like this move for the Mets as well but I laugh that this is an insurance policy for them while this thread would be 12 pages long if it was the Yankees making this move. :-°

Point taken, and agreed.

Perhaps it is more than an insurance policy, however, as the Mets corner OF spots have become a liability for them ever since the deadline.

I'm not sure. It's probably both.

Cliff Floyd is a FA so Milledge should replace him.

I'm guessing that the Mets actually keep Green until his FA year.

next 2 years should have

Milledge in LF
Beltran in CF
Green in RF

2009

Milledge in LF
Beltran in CF
Fernando Martinez in RF (Guy has a rocked arm!)

Carlos Gomez will be in the mix before Fernando.

As far as Shawn Green, I like the deal. He doesn't have to hit HRs to be an impact player in the lineup and it doesn't look like Big Cliff will be in the Mets plans next year anyway. Also, the D'backs gave a good chunk of money to pay for him as well.
