He will probably start in AAA, next year if he continues this pace until end of season. Durham will be a better test b/c montgomery is a Known pitchers park. I would like to see him play a full season in AAA and get a callup at the end of 2007 to get his feet wet and start with the club in 08 as the 3rd or 4th starter.
Just need to be careful b/c those guys from Rice threw a lot of innings in college.
i'm thinking if he pitches very well in the AFL this fall and during spring training next year, then the parent club will give him a spot in the rotation at the beginning of 2007.
being a proven college pitcher, he's got enough experience and command, i think.
also, sometimes, a guy doesn't have to prove he can stay healthy for a certain amount of time either to make it to the show. sometimes, it's more like - alas, he's finally healthy right now, at this moment, let's see what this guy can do. just look at cole hamels this year.

As a Rays fan i hope u are wrong. I do not want to Rush anyone up like we have with other guys. Like i said, he as pitched well in AA montgomery for 12 games. Before that he hurt himself and that was after only half a season. He needs to pitch in AAA for a while before getting called up.
I surely hope he is in Durham next year for a few months. He needs the time there to further his development, and it will also give me a few chances to go and see him pitch.
The Rays rushed Kazmir, skipping him over AAA entirely, didn't seem to hurt him. At the start of next spring, Niemann will be 24 years old. He was considered ML ready when drafted, and he was only 21 then. If Jeff pitches well in the AFL and Spring Training, why not give him a shot? He has dominating stuff, and would be a great 1-2 punch with Kazmir.
