I actually thought Maybin might go, but I guess they have other plans for him. He's been banged up a little at times this year, so maybe a little rest is in store.

Game 1 for the Tigers AFL affiliate Phoenix Desert Dogs was pretty uneventful for Tigers prospects.

Brent Clevlen played RF and went 0 for 2 with 2 BB, 1 K and a run.

Kody Kirkland played 3B and went 0 for 3 with a K.

Preston Larrison pitched a scoreless/hitless inning with 1 K.

Brent Clevlen played RF again and went 0 for 4 with 4 K's.

Mike Rabelo started at DH and went 0 for 3 with 1 BB.

Sorry for the delay in updating the Tigers AFL progress but as you can imagine it was one drunken weekend here in Downtown Detroit!

Game 4

Mike Rabelo (C) went 1 for 4 with 3RBI 1R 1BB 1K

Kody Kirkland(3B) went 1 for 2 with 2RBI 1BB 1error

Virgil Vasquez(SP) got rocked giving up 8 ER in 1.2IP.

Preston Larrison pitched 1 inning and gave up 1 ER without giving up a hit. He had 2 BB and 2K.

Corey Hamman pitched 1 scoreless inning.

Game 5

Brent Clevlen(RF) went 0 for 3 with 1K

Kody Kirkland(3B) went 1 for 3 with 2K

Jordan Tata pitched 3 solid innings giving up 1 solo HR allowed his only hit and earned run. He also had 5K and 0BB.

Game 6

Brent Clevlen(RF) went 1 for 3 with a solo HR 3R 2BB 1K

Corey Hamman(SP) pitched 1 inning giving up 2H 1 solo HR 2K

I guess the Tigers must have changed their minds about sending Jair Jurrjens and Kevin Whelan to the AFL.

Seven prospects from the World Series-bound Detroit Tigers play for Phoenix (4-4). The Desert Dogs have been up and down through their first eight games, but sit atop the Arizona Fall League's East standings.

After striking out five times in six at-bats to the start the season, outfielder Brent Clevlen turned in his best performance on Oct. 12. The 22-year-old Texas native went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and three runs scored as Phoenix defeated Scottsdale, 7-3.

Four days later, Clevlen walked and scored twice before belting his first home run during a 14-6 rout of the Peoria Saguaros.

Clevlen has also shown a good eye at the plate, drawing seven walks in seven games.

3B Kody Kirkland -- The 23-year-old third baseman had a strange week. From Oct. 13 to Oct. 17, he had four straight games with a double while driving in three runs. During that same stretch, Kirkland struck out seven times in 12 at-bats. He also fanned four times on Oct. 18.

C Mike Rabelo -- Rabelo ripped a two-run single on Oct. 13 for his first hit in seven at-bats. The 26-year-old catcher has not gotten many at-bats because he has been playing behind Curtis Thigpen.

RHP Virgil Vasquez -- Friday the 13th was kind to Vasquez (0-1). The 24-year-old right-hander was tagged for six runs, including two homers, during a six-run first inning. He surrendered two runs in the following frame. Vasquez was charged with eight runs on nine hits in just 1 2/3 innings as the Desert Dogs lost to Scottsdale, 11-8.

LHP Corey Hamman -- Hamman tossed a perfect inning on Oct. 13 before surrendering two hits, including a homer, in one inning on Oct. 16.

RHP Preston Larrison -- The 25-year-old right-hander surrendered two runs on two hits and three walks over two innings. On Oct. 13, he allowed a run on two walks while striking out two in one inning. He yielded two hits and a walk on Oct. 17.

RHP Jordan Tata -- Tata (0-1) hasn't seen much action during his stint in the AFL. He started on Oct. 14, allowing a run and striking out five in three innings.

Vasquez looking good in AFL

Virgil Vasquez's first two Arizona Fall League starts couldn't have gone more differently.

During his first start for the Phoenix Desert Dogs -- on Friday the 13th no less -- Vasquez (1-1) was roughed up for eight runs on nine hits over just 1 2/3 innings. It was his shortest outing of the entire year.

But the 24-year-old right-hander immediately bounced back. On Oct. 20 against AFL West-leading Grand Rapids, Vasquez retired the first nine batters he faced in order before giving up a leadoff single in the fourth inning.

He only allowed that one hit, striking out six and walking one over five innings to pick up the victory. Five days later, he continued his strong pitching for the AFL East-leading Desert Dogs, scattering three hits with three strikeouts over four scoreless innings.

Here's how the rest of the Tigers prospects fared in recent Arizona Fall League play:

CF Brent Clevlen -- Clevlen snapped an 0-for-8 skid by going 5-for-7 in two straight multi-hit games. The 22-year-old went 2-for-4 with two RBIs on Tuesday and turned in his best performance a day later with a 3-for-3 game with an RBI.

3B Kody Kirkland -- After striking out four times Oct. 18, the 23-year-old third baseman rebounded nicely with a three-run homer and a run-scoring single Oct. 20. But he has struck out 15 times in 10 games.

LHP Corey Hamman -- Hamman has gone less than two innings in each of his seven relief appearances. He allowed a double and an RBI single in the sixth inning Oct. 21.

RHP Preston Larrison -- The 25-year-old right-hander was charged with a run on a hit and a walk while recording just one out Oct. 21. In his next outing, Larrison worked a scoreless inning.

RHP Jordan Tata -- Tata (0-1) didn't fare any better during his second start of the AFL. He allowed one run, three hits and four walks over three innings. In each of his two starts, Tata has given up a home run.

C Mike Rabelo -- After playing in just two games (1-for-7 with three RBIs), Rabelo left the AFL on Oct. 2
