Seven prospects from the World Series-bound Detroit Tigers play for Phoenix (4-4). The Desert Dogs have been up and down through their first eight games, but sit atop the Arizona Fall League's East standings.
After striking out five times in six at-bats to the start the season, outfielder Brent Clevlen turned in his best performance on Oct. 12. The 22-year-old Texas native went 2-for-3 with an RBI double and three runs scored as Phoenix defeated Scottsdale, 7-3.
Four days later, Clevlen walked and scored twice before belting his first home run during a 14-6 rout of the Peoria Saguaros.
Clevlen has also shown a good eye at the plate, drawing seven walks in seven games.
3B Kody Kirkland -- The 23-year-old third baseman had a strange week. From Oct. 13 to Oct. 17, he had four straight games with a double while driving in three runs. During that same stretch, Kirkland struck out seven times in 12 at-bats. He also fanned four times on Oct. 18.
C Mike Rabelo -- Rabelo ripped a two-run single on Oct. 13 for his first hit in seven at-bats. The 26-year-old catcher has not gotten many at-bats because he has been playing behind Curtis Thigpen.
RHP Virgil Vasquez -- Friday the 13th was kind to Vasquez (0-1). The 24-year-old right-hander was tagged for six runs, including two homers, during a six-run first inning. He surrendered two runs in the following frame. Vasquez was charged with eight runs on nine hits in just 1 2/3 innings as the Desert Dogs lost to Scottsdale, 11-8.
LHP Corey Hamman -- Hamman tossed a perfect inning on Oct. 13 before surrendering two hits, including a homer, in one inning on Oct. 16.
