An owner of a 9.18K/9 ratio and 1.02 WHIP in 16.2 AAA innings, is Jonathan Sanchez, 23, someone you think could crack the top 60 on your top 100 prospect list entering 2007?

He has a career 3.98 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP in the minors prior to this year while being old for all the levels he was at. Although he still had filthy SO numbers with an ok BB/9

227 SO in 174 IP before this season 11.74K/9 while keeping an ok but not great 3.47BB/9

In other words it looks like he has potential but I'd definately need to see alot more than 16 innings out of him this year before even breaking the top 150 let alone top 60.

Sanchez pitched effectively in 31.1 AA innings (0.73 WHIP, 13.21K/9) and at the major league level (1.32 WHIP, 7.32K/9 in 19.2 innings) this season, too.

That gives him a combined 0.98 WHIP and 10.50K/9 in 67.2 innings.

Is Sanchez still not in the picture for your top 150 prospects?

Well if you just look at those numbers then yes it would seem that he is improving but when I look at his AA and MLB numbers what I see is 16.2 IP in AA with 9 walks and 19 IP in the bigs with 12 walks....... thats over 5BB per 9, which is not good at all. Like I said before, I've got to see more before he breaks my top 150. Someone to definately keep any eye on because he doesn't need to work on striking anyone out, but if he wants to be a consistant, solid big leaguer he is going to have to improve on his control.

Well, I think our disagreement shows how wildly his rank as a prospect in 2007 will vary. For the record, I have Jonathan Sanchez a smidgen above Humberto Sanchez on my top 100 (he's 51st right now for me).

Maybe I'm an over-valueing Giants fan. Or maybe I'm a well-informed voice on his ability to pitch (I did go to see him pitch in Sacramento - Oak AAA - last Saturday and I watched most of his Giants appearances).
