This is from Sunday's Newark (N.J.) Star Ledger:

Here's an amazing statistic from the Elias Sports Bureau: While ERIC GAGNE was racking up those 55 straight saves (and counting), there were 559 blown saves in the majors.

What else can you say? ;-D

i can say that 500 of those blown saves were from Boston... If you know what i mean ;-D

Well, which 1 is it? 500 from Boston or crap?

I would expect that this also includes having a middle reliever come in in the 7th or 8th inning with a lead and losing it. Either way, Gagne is awesome. ;-D

Well, in that amount of time, if he was left the closer no matter what, he could have only blown 55 saves. That's not even close to the 559 that have been blown. A stat that would be interesting is: How many saves have there been in that time, not including Gagne's?

I hear ya but it is impressive nonetheless. In the time since he has blown a save, there have been 559 blown saves. It would be nice to see how many actual saves there have been but that wasn't the author's intention. He was just trying to stress Gagne's dominance.

clear up, i am bored. so i went to ESPN and sorted stats
1 pitcher has 10 BS
1 pitcher has 9 BS
2 pitchers has 8 BS
7 pitchers has 7 BS
8 pitchers has 6 BS
12 pitchers has 5 BS
14 pitchers has 4 BS
35 pitchers has 3 BS
40 pitchers has 2 BS
80 pitchers has 1 BS

Total: 513

however this appears to include middle relievers who blow games
