What are the scariest movies?

well this is a safe one and i'm sure many will agree with me: the exorcist.

a lot of movies may be just as "scary," but none will be as disturbing.

you know a scary movie is a good one when it leaves you depressed afterwards for days.

The original 'The Omen' was definitely creepy. Also have to agree with Alien and Psycho.

The Birds was also disturbing.

Depends on your version of scary. Do you like the "Boo!" scary films where scary things, like monsters, are jumping out of every corner, or are you more fond of the psychologically scary movies?

I prefer the psychological ones, so I always end up recommending movies like The Ring, Fallen, and my old-school favorite Angel Heart. For "Boo!," I actually thought The Grudge was quite good. The plot was stupid, but the spirit-thing was unstoppable, and it was everywhere you turned. Very good.

At the theatres now, The Descent is getting rave reviews over at Yahoo. I've literally seen dozens of comments saying it's the best scary movie since The Ring.

On that note, I want to see The Descent, but I can't get my wife to go. She thinks it looks dumb. If anyone has seen it, I'd appreciate a review.

I thought The Descent was really good and I'm not big on horror movies. The movie is very dark, no natural light for the most part of it and it takes a little while for the gals to get to the cave, but once they get there...mayhem. :-°

I think it's better than The Ring...although I do think Naomi Watts is hot...but which Ring are we talking about here? Anyway, there is a hot girl in The Descent too...all covered in blood. ;-D

Go see this movie. B-)

First Ring, American version. None of this awful-sequel crap. Sticking with the original.

Thanks for the review. I might actually be able to talk my wife into seeing it.

At least I remember that one to be pretty scary. Was a long time ago, I was fairly young when I saw it, and I know they've made more recent versions. I'm talking about the original though.

I'm right there with you. I'm pretty certain much of the film features fake death scenes, but it's very disturbing nonetheless.

I saw "The Fall of the House of Usher" when I was a kid, scared the pants off me for years.

None of the "Nightmare on Elm Street"'s ever did much for me. Original Amityville was very good. Exorcist freaked everyone out.

I think "The Ring" has been the best in the genre to come along for many years.
