the cardinals have signed preston wilson. he will be in uniform for the game today. i guess timo perez gets sent down or maybe edmonds to the DL? i am not sure if anyone not in a 37 team nl central only league cares about this move.
i wouldnt think it would affect duncan too much. he will still start vs. righties. perhaps he will sit a little more against lefties but thats not really anything new.
no official link yet but a writer for a stl paper says its a done deal.
Breaking news: Preston Wilson signs with Cardinals
He's in Chicago.... will be available to play today .... no word yet on who gets sent down, but figures to be Timo Perez, unless they put Edmonds on the DL, which I don't think they will do.
Wilson was fine against LH this season for Houston, wth a .313 BA, .379 OBP and .416 SLG in 77 ABs.
Not as good vs. RH... in 313 atbats, was .259 / .291 / .403 ... with 71 Ks and 13 walks.
Overall for the Astros: .269, 9 HR 55 RBIs, .309 OBP, .405 SLG -- with 94 Ks and 22 walks. And six steals.
Good number: batting .301 with RISP this year, .340 RISP and 2 out. And .225 close/late, which isn't bad.
Wilson played almost exclusively in LF for the Astros this season (823 innings) but appeared briefly in CF (9 innings) and RF (30 innings).
He's 32 years old.
Had some big power years in Colorado (pre-humidor) and did hit 25 homers as recently as 2005. Has struck out 100 + times in six seasons of his career.
Just thinking out loud ...
When Edmonds can't play -- and this is one of those 'who knows' things -- Encarnacion can move to CF. Then one option is a J. Rodriguez / Wilson platoon in RF. With Duncan (most of the time) in LF.

Preston Wilson has been garbage basically all year, while Duncan has been everything the Cards could have hoped (over the last 30 days, his numbers looked almost exactly like Adam Dunn's!). And the Cards know that Duncan has more of a place in their future than Wilson.
Chris Iannetta was born on Krypton and transported to Earth as an infant and saves the universe when he's not getting on base every plate appearance.
apparently reyes was optioned to AAA to make room for preston. i guess they will call up mulder in a few days even though he has been sucking in his rehab starts.
The Cards needed to do something, and I'm pretty sure this isn't it. I mean, he hit a titanic 9 HR's in almost 400 AB's in Houston, even with the short porch in left field.
Given his recent struggles, I think this is more the Cards LOOKING like they're doing something than actually doing something. What we need to do is either fully convert Duncan to an OF, or trade him for one.
