Betancourt and McClung

Postby ronatats » Thu Aug 17, 2006 7:38 am

Are these guys closing? Are they worth holding on to? I've held onto McClung for awhile because with SP eligibility he has the potential of giving me an extra closer. Betancourt in listed as closer on the Cleveland depth chart (Yahoo) but he hasn't closed a game and I never saw any official post.

Who would you choose if you could only keep 3?
Papelbon, Beltran, Utley, Wright, Jeter

Thanks!

Probably this should be in the Start/Bench Thread.

Boy that's a tough one.

I like Wright, Utley, Jeter and then Beltran and Papelbon

As far as Betancourt and McClung. I like Betancourt's chances more than McClung's chance simply because he appears to be a better pitcher.

Betancourt is probably near if not at the top of a CBC situation in Cleveland. McClung is the closer every way but an actual announcement in TB. The team said awhile ago that he would be eased into the closer role as soon as they felt he was ready. He's been pitching in all of the closer situations for the last week or so while Meadows has been used in non-closer situations (8th inning and earlier) over that same time period. TB just hasn't had a save opp since the switch.

Not sure about the closer situation, but I would definitely keep Wright and Utley. Chosing between Beltran and Jeter is tough but l would lean towards Beltran b/c there seems to be a lot of talent at shortstop. I wouldn't even consider Papelbon. There are always good closers available during the draft.
