So many minor leaguers have graduated to the majors this season that there is going to be an entirely new look to the top 100 prospect lists next season. With this in mind, who is your favorite relatively unknown player who will climb onto the charts next season?
I'm going with Deolis Guerra, 17, of the Mets. I'm pretty sure he started the year hurt (first GS was 5/6/06), but now he is really gaining momentum with the Hagerstown Suns (A).
The 6-foot-5 righty owns a 1.17 WHIP and a K/9 ratio of 6.81 in 76.2 innings. His last four starts are what really solidfied his prospect status in my mind:
8/11 - 5.0 IP, 2 HA, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
8/06 - 5.2 IP, 5 HA, 1 ER, 2 BB, 11 K
7/29 - 5.2 IP, 3 HA, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
7/24 - 6.0 IP, 5 HA, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
That's a 0.93 WHIP and a 8.34K/9 ratio over his last four starts (22.2 innings). And he's only 17!
