Who is your favorite under the radar prospect?

Postby shortsavage » Wed Aug 16, 2006 5:59 pm

So many minor leaguers have graduated to the majors this season that there is going to be an entirely new look to the top 100 prospect lists next season. With this in mind, who is your favorite relatively unknown player who will climb onto the charts next season?

I'm going with Deolis Guerra, 17, of the Mets. I'm pretty sure he started the year hurt (first GS was 5/6/06), but now he is really gaining momentum with the Hagerstown Suns (A).

The 6-foot-5 righty owns a 1.17 WHIP and a K/9 ratio of 6.81 in 76.2 innings. His last four starts are what really solidfied his prospect status in my mind:

8/11 - 5.0 IP, 2 HA, 1 ER, 3 BB, 3 K
8/06 - 5.2 IP, 5 HA, 1 ER, 2 BB, 11 K
7/29 - 5.2 IP, 3 HA, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
7/24 - 6.0 IP, 5 HA, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K

That's a 0.93 WHIP and a 8.34K/9 ratio over his last four starts (22.2 innings). And he's only 17!

Will Inman with the Brewers at West Virginia Power.

1.48era-85.1ip-57h-21bb...and most impressively 101 ks.

I get mixed reviews of his fastball, I've heard he tops out at 97, but then around 93 from others.

If he gets it up to 97 that would be huge. From everything I had heard before he profiled as more of a mid rotation guy rather than an ace.

My favorite under the radar guy is Brandon Erbe although he seems to be getting a lot more notice recently. Great stuff, very young and very good numbers. He deserves to be ranked with Adenhart, Gollardo etc.

Some others are Jacob McGee, Travis Wood, Jose Arredondo, Anthony Swarzak, Chris Parmalee, and Adam Lind.

I'll go with a Low A ball guy - Tyler Greene. He looks to be a real good all around player. He is a smooth fielder, can hit for power, and runs the bases well.
