Lidge done as Full-time Closer

Postby KHI » Wed Aug 16, 2006 3:51 am

Lidge's fifth blown save this season cost him his job as the team's closer, too.

"I'm going to take him out of the closer's role," Garner said. "It's going to be closer-by-committee."

Lidge was pulled from the closer's role for a short stint earlier this season, as well.

Here's another take on the situation:

rotoworld wrote:Astros manager Phil Garner said after Brad Lidge's blown save on Tuesday that he's going to a closer-by-committee.
Lidge's blown save was just his second in three months, not that he's pitched very well at any point of the season. Dan Wheeler becomes the favorite for saves for now. Lidge should have opportunities to win back the job if he can just put together consistent performances for a week or two.

What the hell? He's only blown five saves! Trevor Hoffman himself has blown four. If Garner would stop putting him in non-save situations Lidge would be fine.

Hoffmans ERA is 2.22, Lidge is at 5.70, he's given up 7 hr's in 32 innings at home, a 15.00 ERA with RISP. 1.24 ERA with bases empty (head case). Lidge is done, toast, finito, finished, sad to say he was a keeper for me last season, and I did drop him 1.5 weeks ago. He needs out of Houston.

I just picked Wheeler up for Holds, something I've been punting most of the year, so this is good news for me except for the fact that I now probably still need someone for Holds.
He woulda got one last night had Lidge not blown it in the 9th...

i am currently in first place by 4 games in my 18 team h2h. my two closers are lidge and mike gonzalez. as you can imagine, there are NO guys on the waiver wire for saves in such a huge league. this may cost me the championship...

matt holliday better be ok too, i cant afford him being out for more than a week

a true test for my 1st place squad :-o
Vaughn: What's that sh*t on your chest?

Harris: Crisco, Bardol, Vagisil. Any one of them will give you another two to three inches drop on your curve ball.
