Fernando Martinez, 17, put up better numbers than Jay Bruce, 19, and Jose Tabata, 18, at a younger age. Now Martinez is in A+ while Bruce and Tabata remain in A.
An Omar Minaya addition, Martinez received a $500,000+ signing bonus last year, so he has been highly coveted.
Does Martinez show up in the top 20 of your prospect list?
If not, I'd like to know why - and more than just because you are unfamiliar with him.
Currently, he is #24 on my list. He'll soon be #22 when Kendrick and Milledge drop off. I like him a lot but he's no higher than #24 because there are 23 guys I like better right now. Remember, he's still a ways away from MLB and he has yet to play above Hi-A and also has yet to master Hi-A. A ranking of #24 for someone his age is an extreme compliment.

Do you have Jay Bruce and or Jose Tabata ahead of Martinez? If so, why?
I have Bruce, Tabata and Martinez all next to each other. That's mainly because they seem to have similar upside, are about the same age and at about the same level. Now, I have them ranked Bruce, then Martinez, then Tabata but I could have just as easily put them in any order. Also, I use my own version of adjusted OPS in my analysis of raw stats and these 3 have comparable numbers for this year. Also, BA's opinion carries a lot of weight w me and on John Manuel's Mid-season top 25 prospects list, he had Bruce at #15 and Tabata at #16 and didnt even list Martinez as an honorable mention. The fact that he was hurt at the time no doubt affected this. This also was before Tabata got hurt. So, you and I evidently think more of Martinez than Manuel does rt now. It will be interesting to see where BA ranks these three on next year's list.
BTW, speaking of very young prospects who are zooming up the prospect charts, watch out for Chris Parmelee.
He isn't in the Top 20 for me. Yes he performed very well for his age in Low A, but he is still behind quite a few that have also had very good seasons. I wish they didn't promote him and that he had one full year in Low A. It's easy to forget the kid only 192 Ab's before they promoted him, is that really enough at this point in his development or to be a Top 20? While they might be rushing him to see how he deals with failure, I'm not sure it's the best move.

John Manuel is on my buddy list and I have been meaning to take this up with him.
Bruce well above Martinez, Martinez slightly above Tabata.
It's really not much of an argument between Bruce and the other two.
