I just don't understand why they'd give up Guzman for him if he's not going to play every day... Maybe they know something about Guzman that no one else does.

It was speculated that this would be the pattern for Lugo and the Dodgers from the minute they acquired him. If he can go 3/5 with 2 runs scored one night and then be sitting on the bench the next, it surely points towards continued sporadic playing time going forward, or at least until the next Kent or Garciappara injury. You won't be able to count on him being in the lineup unless you see the lineup online before game time. If you set weekly lineups ahead of time he is likely a bench candidate. I tried without success to move him in my league before the deadline. Unless you think Kent or Nomar won't hold up, he is a trade candidate, but be aware that you may not get as much for him now (I couldn't get Kevin Youkilis for him.)
Ned Coletti obviously believes the Dodgers can make the post-season and wanted a credible player as a replacement if injuries occur, even if it meant dealing a top prospect like Guzman whose only problem is apparently a bad attitude. That kind of move smells a lot like the type of thing Coletti's former boss Brian Sabean does in S.F.

Seperately, Little has made it fairly clear that Betemit will get the bulk of the time at 3B, meaning that Lugo will only grab a few games here and there at 3B.
As a Dodger fan, I can't argue with the acquisition. The team has a legitimate shot at making a run in the post-season, especially with Pedro looking shaky health-wise. But banking on the stars aligning and Normar, Kent, Lofton and Drew making it 2 months without getting hurt is not the way to go. Lugo gives depth to 2B, SS, 3B and OF and ensures that Dodgers are capable of doing more than just winning a crappy division and getting stomped in the first round of the playoffs.
From rototimes.com: 08.14 Manager Grady Little is planning to give Rafael Furcal the day off on Wednesday, according to the Dodgers website. Little intends to make Wednesday, which is followed by an off day on Thursday, the the last time that Furcal sits out a game for the entire season. "After that," Little said of Furcal, who has played 113 of 115 games, "he'll be good to go until November.
Nice to see that starting Friday, Furcal will start the Dodgers final 41 games at shortstop.

you got ripped off
yeah dude how is that a good trade for you??? Delgado is streaky but Glaus is gonna be playing through pain for the rest of the year. Plus you lost out on Lugo's speed even if he is only playing part time...
Anyway if i could i would still try and trade him but my deadline is passed. I'll be looking for an injury or trying to do my best to only start him when he plays...
