I don't think this deal is as lopsided as you guys are making in sound.
Butler may seem riskier since he is still in the minors, but he has been on the fast track for quite some time. And given the uncertainty around the health of pitchers, I wouldn't question giving up Verlander for Butler.
They have fairly even keeper potential in my mind. This one just comes down what each team needed.
Uhhh.... That deal is not close. Trading a proven for an unproven is not smart, especially when the proven has a sub-3 ERA, three excellent pitches, good control, and two pitches that are punch-out material. Butler should be good eventually, but his power could take a while to fully develop and you never know if it will definitely develop. He will be a good hitter, but how good is the question. Verlander has never had injury problems and doesn't throw pitches that generally cause injury - sure, he could still get hurt, but I would say Verlander for Butler is a big time steal.

Well he was shut down at the end of last year and this year with the so called "arm fatigue". But I do agree trading for a proven young talent is always a pretty good deal.

I tried to read your post but I got distracted by the Tigers logo below your name.
I agree 100% with what rmande09 said..........notice the Royals info below......
I don't think it's that lopsided, Verlander is having a good year, but they're are too many people using the term "proven". In my opinion he is not yet proven, once he puts together a couple of good years, then I'll call him proven.
Good trade, I would also trade move Butler for Verlander, but I don't think it's a huge steal.
